Cryptosporidium Test Kit

The test checks for cryptosporidium antigens in cats, dogs and reptiles. The sample must comprise faeces from a single animal, as pooling is not suitable for this test. The test is undertaken by specialist and experienced analysts utilising immunochromatographic methods in our state of the art, purpose built laboratory.
This test has a use by date of at least 4 weeks from point of order and it must be returned to the lab on or any time before the use by date.
Free after test advice is available with all of our tests.
Please note this screen is only available for dogs, cats and reptiles.

Cryptosporidium is a microscopic protozoan parasite that causes the gastrointestinal disease cryptosporidiosis that can infect animals and humans (zoonosis).
Please note this test is a specific screen which is only suitable for dogs, cats and reptiles. As it is an advanced screen which works to detect the dog or cat’s specific immune response to the infection.
Typical symptoms in animals may include diarrhoea, vomiting, weight loss and loss of appetite.
This screen is for dogs, cats and reptiles only for the detection of cryptosporidium parvum antigens. The testing procedure adopted within our lab identifies antigens rather than oocysts as this is a more accurate measure than looking for oocysts using microscopy methods.
There is a ‘use by date’ on each kit which MUST be adhered to. The use by date will always be a minimum of 4 weeks from date of order. Unfortunately, no refunds can be given for late submission or unused tests however please contact the office to discuss options if this occurs.
If undertaking a retest post treatment, we recommend waiting at least 3 weeks before retesting following completion of the course of treatment. Please consider the timescales and use-by dates when ordering a kit.
This kit has been designed to provide ultimate sample protection during transit, whilst also minimising our environmental impact as far as practically possible. The kit includes:
- One recyclable padded envelope, made with 60% recycled material
- Free tracked return 24hr postage
- One blue paper laboratory request form and test and instruction sheet with use by date
- One recyclable sample collection box in resealable write-on panelled bags
- One biodegradable second sealable bag
- One biodegradable natural wood sampling spoon
