Feline Parasite and Bacteria Screen

£168.60 per test

Huge savings compared to buying screens separately

Our most comprehensive and best-value feline test suite is now available. The Parasite and Bacteria Screen for Cats offers extensive testing for a wide range of gastrointestinal parasites and pathogens that can affect your cat’s health. This detailed panel combines traditional parasite screening with advanced molecular diagnostics (qPCR testing), providing greater accuracy compared to antigen tests.

If your cat is showing unexplained symptoms such as vomiting, weight loss, or persistent cat diarrhoea, this comprehensive screening panel is designed to accurately identify the underlying cause and support targeted treatment.

This screen includes the following tests:

  • Worm Count Test – Detects intestinal worms, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms, in your cat’s stool.
  • Lungworm Test – Screens for lungworm species currently known to affect cats in the UK. Lungworm can cause coughing, breathing difficulties, and other serious respiratory issues.
  • Tritrichomonas foetus – A protozoan parasite that can cause chronic cat diarrhoea, particularly in younger or purebred cats.
  • Feline Panleukopenia Virus – A severe viral infection causing fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, and immune suppression.
  • Feline Coronavirus – Associated with mild digestive upset and, in some cases, the development of FIP.
  • Giardia intestinalis – A protozoan parasite that may lead to intermittent or chronic diarrhoea.
  • Cryptosporidium spp. – Protozoan pathogens known to cause digestive disturbances and diarrhoea.
  • Clostridium perfringens – A bacterium linked to intestinal upset and diarrhoea.
  • Salmonella spp. – Causes gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhoea and lethargy.
  • Campylobacter spp. – Can result in diarrhoea (sometimes bloody), abdominal pain, and vomiting.

Key Features and Turnaround Times:

  • Worm Count and Digestion Analysis: Same working day
  • Lungworm: Next working day
  • All qPCR Pathogen Tests: Within 5 working days

The kit comes with a use-by date of at least 6 weeks from the order date. Samples must be returned to the lab before this date for processing.

Order before 3pm Monday-Friday for same day dispatch, which we send on a 24 hour service. All orders over £40 and all subscriptions qualify for free delivery.

If your screen is urgent and you would prefer to send a sample directly to the lab, please contact us and we will give you a Unique Lab Reference number and help you with what to do.

Comprehensive Feline Pathogen Panel

This Comprehensive Feline Pathogen Panel offers exceptional value for money, providing a convenient and cost-effective way to screen for a broad range of infectious agents that may affect your cat’s health.

This panel includes:

Gastrointestinal Parasite Screen
Detects a wide range of gastrointestinal parasites, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.

Lungworm Detection
Screens for the lungworm species currently identified in the UK that can affect cats, which may cause coughing, respiratory distress, and other serious symptoms.

Pathogen Identification using qPCR
Advanced quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) testing is used to identify:

  • Viruses: Feline Panleukopenia Virus and Feline Coronavirus (which may be linked to FIP in some cats).

  • Bacteria: Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., and Clostridium perfringens.

  • Protozoa: Tritrichomonas foetus (T. foetus), Giardia intestinalis (Assemblages A–F), and Cryptosporidium spp.

Easy-to-Use Kit
Your kit includes full instructions. Please read and follow these carefully to ensure accurate results.

Key Benefits

  • All-in-one testing – Screen for worms, lungworm, bacteria, viruses, and protozoa in one comprehensive test.

  • Advanced accuracy – Utilises quantitative PCR (qPCR) technology for highly reliable results.

  • Early detection – Helps identify infections before they lead to serious health issues.

  • Easy and convenient – Simple at-home sample collection with clear, easy-to-follow instructions.

  • Cost-effective – Comprehensive screening saves you money compared to running separate tests.

Report 1 – Worm Count and Digestion Analysis
Tested and issued the same working day the sample arrives at the lab. The worm egg screen will identify and quantify all species present within the following family groups:

  • Ascarids (Roundworms)

  • Hookworms

In addition, as standard, this screen also reports on:

  • All species of cestodes (Tapeworms*)

  • Protozoa – Coccidia

* Tapeworms are very intermittent shedders and may not always appear in a worm egg screen. If present in the sample, the species will be identified.

Report 2 – Lungworm Test
The test begins the same working day the sample arrives at the lab. As this is an extended screen, it runs overnight, and results are issued the following working day. The report will include all species of lungworm currently known to affect cats in the UK.

Report 3 – Feline Pathogen Panel Report
Testing may take up to 5 working days and uses highly accurate qPCR testing techniques. A separate report will be provided detailing results for:

  • Viruses: Feline Panleukopenia Virus, Feline Coronavirus

  • Bacteria: Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., Clostridium perfringens

  • Protozoa: Tritrichomonas foetus (T. foetus), Giardia intestinalis (Assemblages A–F), Cryptosporidium spp.

There is a ‘use by date’ on each kit which MUST be adhered to.  The use by date will be at least 6 weeks from date of order.  Unfortunately, no refunds can be given for late submission or unused tests however please contact the office to discuss options if this occurs.

If undertaking a retest post treatment, we recommend waiting at least 3 weeks before retesting following completion of the course of treatment.

Why does my cat have diarrhoea?

Cat diarrhoea can be caused by a wide range of factors, including parasites, bacteria, and viruses. Common cat diarrhoea causes include Giardia, Tritrichomonas foetus, and Cryptosporidium, along with bacterial infections such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Clostridium perfringens. Viral infections like Feline Panleukopenia Virus and Feline Coronavirus can also lead to digestive upset. If your cat has diarrhoea, especially if it’s persistent or accompanied by other symptoms, it’s important to identify the underlying cause. Our test uses qPCR testing to detect these pathogens with high accuracy. Unsure what to do if your cat has diarrhoea? Start with a diagnostic test to determine the cause and ensure your cat gets the right treatment.
